The same day, the Ambassador of Nepal in Dhaka Ghanshyam Bhandari and the Executive Vice President of Airbus Wouter van Wersch held a meeting with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meeting highlighted the critical role of satellite technology in monitoring environmental changes and climate phenomena.

The presence of French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marie Masdupuy, added further significance to the occasion, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between Airbus and Bangladesh in leveraging advanced satellite technology for environmental stewardship, according to a ministry press release, said BSS.

Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury commended Airbus for its leadership in satellite technology and welcomed the prospect of strengthened cooperation between Airbus and Bangladesh in the field of environmental monitoring and climate resilience. 

He said Satellite technology has emerged as a pivotal tool in the global efforts to monitor and address environmental challenges ranging from tracking deforestation and biodiversity loss to assessing climate patterns and supporting disaster management initiatives.

During the meeting, discussions centred on the latest advancements in satellite technology developed by Airbus, aimed at enhancing the precision and scope of environmental monitoring. 

They underscored Airbus's commitment to leveraging innovation for sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Wersch expressed Airbus's readiness to collaborate with Bangladesh in harnessing satellite technology to address pressing environmental concerns.

 He emphasized the importance of partnerships between government, industry, and international stakeholders in tackling complex environmental issues.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to exploring concrete avenues for collaboration, leveraging satellite technology to support Bangladesh's efforts towards a greener and more resilient future. 

 

Nepalese envoy calls on environment minister

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in environmental conservation and climate resilience between Nepal and Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the Nepal Ambassador presented an invitation letter from Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, Minister for Forests and Environment of Nepal, to Environment Minister Saber Chowdhury, to participate in the International Expert Dialogue on Mountains, People, and Climate Change.

The event will be organized by the Government of Nepal in Kathmandu on May 22-23, 2024.

Environment Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury will present a keynote paper at the meeting.

Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury expressed Bangladesh's keen interest in strengthening bilateral ties in the field of environmental conservation.

He emphasized the need for joint research, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building initiatives to address effectively the environmental challenges faced by both countries.

They underscored the shared commitment of both countries to addressing common environmental challenges and fostering sustainable development initiatives.

Ambassador Bhandari highlighted Nepal's rich natural heritage and its efforts to promote sustainable development practices.

He emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation in protecting shared ecosystems and addressing transboundary environmental issues.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to exploring concrete avenues for collaboration, including the exchange of best practices, joint research projects, and the facilitation of technical expertise between Nepal and Bangladesh in the areas of environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
