The government has honoured 180 business people with the commercially important person (CIP) status for the year 2021 due to their significant contribution to the country’s export sector.
Publishing the list of CIPs in a notification on Wednesday, the commerce ministry said the individuals have been selected as per CIP (export) policy.
According to the notification, the CIPs will get passes and vehicle stickers to enter the Bangladesh Secretariat for the next one year. Besides, they will get invitations to national events and civic receptions.
The CIPs will also enjoy a number of facilities, including getting priority in seat reservation in public transports on air, rail, road and waterways while travelling for business purposes.
In the case of foreign travel, the foreign ministry will issue letters of introduction to the CIPs. They will also be able to use VIP lounges at airports. These individuals will get special facilities for treatment for themselves, their spouses and children at government hospitals.
Of the CIPs, 140 have been selected for contributing directly to the export sector.
Among them, four have been selected in the raw jute category, four in jute products, five in leather and leather products, eight in frozen food, 17 in woven clothes (unit), four in woven clothes (group) category, eight in agricultural products, three in agricultural processed products, three in light engineering products, four in pharmaceuticals category, and three in handicraft category.
Others include three in the home textile category, 25 in knitwear (unit), seven in knitwear (group), two in ceramic products, one in plastic products, seven in textiles, and four in computer software, computer services and data processing products and services category.
Apart from this, 23 in the miscellaneous products category and representatives of five companies in the export processing zones have been selected CIPs.
Forty others have been selected as CIPs by the commerce ministry as representatives of various business organisations (trade category).
Among them, 14 directors have been selected from the chamber group (Ka class) of FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry), 15 directors from the association group (Kha class), six directors from the chamber group (Ga class), and five directors from the association group (Gha class).
The validity of CIP (export) status is one year, but the individuals will enjoy their status till the announcement of the next group of CIPs next year.
In the case of trade category CIPs, the individuals will enjoy the status till their tenure of office of the respective trade bodies or the next CIP announcement – whichever is earlier.
