Mobile data users top broadband customers

Mobile phone Internet users of Bangladesh have overwhelmingly outnumbered the broadband net users by nine to one.

Out of the total 120.95 million total Internet subscribers, 110.9 million are mobile phone users while a paltry 10.05 million use broadband connection at the end of June this year.

According to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the number of mobile internet users stood at 110.9 million but the number of broadband subscribers reached 10.05 million.

A person who stays active on the Internet for 90 days is considered a consumer.

Bangladesh ranks 135th out of 137 countries in the world in terms of mobile internet speed. On the other hand, it ranks 98th out of 181 countries in terms of broadband internet speed.

This figure has come up in the June report of Ookla, a global platform that measures internet speed.

It showed that the downloading speed of mobile Internet in Bangladesh is 12.48 Mbps and uploading speed is 7.98 Mbps on the one hand while on the other, broadband download speeds are just over 38 Mbps, and upload speeds are around 37 Mbps.
