BINA, its scientist win IAEA award

Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) has won the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the institutional category.

BINA’s Principal Scientific Officer Dr Shamsun Nahar Begum won the ‘Women in Plant Mutation Breeding Award’ in the individual category for her outstanding plant mutation breeding and related biotechnology performance.

The award will be handed over at the next general meeting of IAEA in September.

“Atomic energy used in 70 among 118 invented food crop variety, which are high yield, drought and saline resistant and played an important role in food security. Among 173 members of IAEA, we won the award for the year 2021,” Dr Mirza Mofazzal Islam, the Director-General of BINA told The Business Post.

He congratulated Dr Nahar and members of the organisation for their achievement.
