Boost special CSR: BB

Bangladesh Bank has directed the scheduled banks to increase the Special Social Responsibility Programme (CSR) activities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Besides, it has asked the banks to file progress reports every fortnight.

Bangladesh Bank’s Sustainable Finance Department issued a circular on Wednesday and sent it to the chief executives of all scheduled banks.

BB directed them to increase their activities to reach the destitute and disadvantaged people at the grassroots level with basic necessities and healthcare.

It also extended the deadline for spending CSR funds to September 30.

BB said the progress of special CSR activities of banks run by deputy commissioners, own management and army welfare agencies until July 14 was not satisfactory.

The circular said progress reports should be submitted on a fortnightly basis to ensure the implementation of CSR activities.

To this end, the first report has to be submitted by August 10. Other fortnightly reports must be submitted to the Sustainable Finance Department within three working days after the end of each fortnight.
