City Bank files GD over media harassment

The City Bank has filed a general diary with Gulshan police regarding alleged harassment of a top official in connection with the recent arrest of a film actress.

Confirming the matter to The Business Post, Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan said City Bank Head of Court Operation Gazi M Shawkat Hasan filed the general diary on Monday night.

According to the GD, a number of media and other social media outlets had been spreading fabricated information regarding various professionals, including one of the bank’s top officials, on their alleged link with the controversial actress.

“False and fabricated news regarding the involvement of a top official of The City Bank was being spread,” the GD stated.

The GD also mentioned that the bank suspects that vested groups, fraudsters or extortionists might be working to tarnish the reputation of the bank and tarnish the image of its senior official.

The bank also said it was necessary to take legal action against them, otherwise the bank and its officials may be harmed in the future.

Earlier, media reports surfaced alleging that City Bank’s Managing Director & CEO Mashrur Arefin gave a car worth Tk 3 crore as a gift to popular Dhaka film actress Pori Moni.

Later, Mashrur Arefin, through a status on social media Facebook, claimed that he does not know anyone by the name of Pori Moni and had no involvement with the actress.
