30 dengue death confirmed

Dengue danger has been dangling over Dhaka and other parts of the country alarmingly as Bangladesh on Wednesday confirmed deaths of four more people from the fever in a span of 24 hours, raising the total toll to 30 this year.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a press release also detected 306 new dengue positive cases in 24 hours till Wednesday 8:00am.

Of them, 273 people hail from Dhaka and the rest were from outside the capital.

With the latest total infection, a total of 6,956 people were diagnosed as dengue positive. Of them, 1,193 patients were undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

DGHS Spokesperson Md Nazmul Islam said that increasing dengue deaths posed additional challenge to healthcare system of the country.

“Death rate is alarming compared with the infection rate,” he said.

Public health experts blamed the failure of the local government agencies to control aedes mosquito — the carrier of dengue fever.
