Compressors performance tests to begin soon at two gas fields

A year-long performance test of the compressors installed at Titas and Narsingdi gas fields under National Gas Efficiency Project is going to begin soon.

Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited has already completed the installation process of the compressors at Titas Gas Field (Location-C) and Narsingdi Field, said a senior official of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources while talking to The Business Post.

In this regard, the 6th meeting of the project steering committee was held in June last on “Natural Gas Efficiency Project (Installation of Gas Compressors at Titas (Location-C) & Narsingdi Gas Fields)” at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

The project aims to increase wellhead gas pressure in maintaining the gas transmission pipeline pressure and optimum gas recovery.

The main component of the project is to supply gas from the respective wells at Titas Gas Field (Location-C) and Narsingdi Field in maintaining grid line pressure by installing compressors.

According to the project proposal, BGFCL has procured three gas compressor (90 MMscfd & 700-1200 psig) with associated facilities including installation and commissioning at Titas Location-C and three gas compressor (15 MMscfd & 700-1200 psig) with associated facilities including installation and commissioning at Narsingdi gas field.

The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 725 crore. Out of the total amount, Tk 638 crore will come from the Japan International Cooperation Agency while the rest Tk 86 crore will come from the government exchequer. The project, which started in July 2014, is scheduled to be completed in June 2022.

“We are now running these compressors experimentally at the sites. Performance test will be started soon after completing the preparatory work,” said a deputy secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Division.

The work of the joint operation will be started after completing one year test performance of these installed compressors, he said.

“Before the launch of the joint operation, the authority will hold on-site training programmes for the workers involved in the operation to enhance their skills further,” he further added.

He, however, said the project was undertaken in the wake of reducing the gas pressures of these two gas fields gradually.
