Banglalink, the third largest mobile operator, recorded a 15.1 per cent rise in its data revenues to Tk 338 crore in the second quarter of 2021.

According to a VEON report published on Wednesday, during April-May period of 2021, Banglalink’s total revenue increased by 6.9 per cent to Tk 1,184.3 crore, which was Tk 1,108.2 crore in the same period of last year.

However, revenue from data increased to Tk 337.9 crore in Q2 of 2021, by 15.1 per cent, which was Tk 293.7 crore in the same period of last year.

On the other hand, earnings from service rose by 7 per cent to Tk 1,162 crore, which was Tk 1,086.2 crore in the same period a year ago.

“Bangladesh imposed a countywide lockdown in April 2021 as the pandemic resurged. Despite these measures, Banglalink recorded Year- on- Year (YoY) growth in revenue as the adjustments we made to the business, including the greater use of digital channels to engage with customers, helped operating performance,” said the report.

Banglalink continued to promote the use of digital channels to facilitate top-ups, account management and the adoption of additional services. As a result, the user base of Banglalink’s self-care app increased by 93 per cent during Q2 of 2021 compared to Q2 of 2020, it added.

Meanwhile, the number of 4G data users reached 9.9 million following 68 per cent YoY growth during the quarter as Banglalink continued to enhance its 4G network, it added.

Banglalink’s total revenue increased by 6.9 per cent YoY in Q2, driven by a rise in data revenue of 15.1 per cent YoY helped in turn by an 8.9 per cent increase in data customers.

“Banglalink succeeded to keep up its growth trajectory in Q2 2021 with solid performances in all segments. We registered a 6.9 per cent YoY revenue growth, which was driven by a 15.1 per cent YoY growth in our data revenue and 7 per cent YoY growth in our service revenue,” said Erik Aas, CEO of Banglalink.

Most significantly, data use of our customers has increased by whopping 43.7 per cent YoY in this quarter. Our customer-base and data customer-base also grew by 7 per cent and 8.9 per cent YoY, respectively, said Erik.

As a result of our efforts to encourage more customers to embrace digital facilities, Toffee saw a significant surge in popularity with its monthly active user’s base reaching 5 million, he added.

The third consecutive Ookla Speedtest award is yet another indication of our consistent performance in the second quarter and the nationwide expansion of our 4G network, said Erik.
