Bangladesh logs 3,167 new Covid-19 cases, 70 deaths

Bangladesh added 70 new coronavirus-related deaths and 3,167 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Friday.

During this period, the positivity rate went up slightly to 10.76 per cent from Thursday’s 10.40 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,10,283 and the total fatalities at 26,432, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 29,438 samples at 796 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 90,21,102 samples.

Meanwhile, 4,697 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,42,582.

Among the fresh fatalities, 34 were males and 36 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 24 fatalities, followed by 15 in Chattogram, 12 in Khulna, 8 in Sylhet, 4 each in Rajshahi and Barishal, and 3 in Rangpur.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, global Covid-19 caseload reached 220,110,947 and the death toll to 4,560,134 till Friday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
