Humayun seeks Russian investment

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Wednesday urged Russian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh’s fertilizer, cement, leather and shipbuilding industries.

He made the call during a meeting with the Russian ambassador in Dhaka Alexander Vikentyevich Mantytskiy at the ministry secretariat in the capital, reads a press release.

“The demand for fertilizers is more in Bangladesh as it is an agricultural country. Joint investment can also be increased in different sectors of the country including cement, light engineering, leather, ceramic, medicine, paper, shipbuilding and chemical,” the minister said.

They also discussed the Bilateral Investment Protection Agreement in the meeting.

Industries minister urged the Russian ambassador to sign an MoU soon between Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Russia’s Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology.

“A proposal of the MoU has already been presented to Russia through our foreign ministry. We will send it again after amending if it is necessary,” Humayun added.

Alexander Vikentyevich assured to take necessary steps in this regard.

Alexander also agreed to discuss further Bangladesh-Russia inter-governmental commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in the next meeting.
