The Egyptian state-owned flag carrier Egyptair is set to begin its regular flight operations to Bangladesh in November.

The airline initially plans to operate two weekly flights between Dhaka and Cairo.

The announcement came from an event organised by the Egyptian embassy in Dhaka in association with Egyptair, Air Cairo and ALO Dhaka Aviation in presence of media and stakeholders including travel and tour operators at a Dhaka hotel on Saturday.

Addressing the function, Hytham Gobashy, ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, said, the launching of Egyptair in Bangladesh is a milestone in the bilateral relations between the two brotherly nations.

“As Egyptair commences its direct flights between Dhaka and Cairo, it will offer a great opportunity for different stakeholders intending to visit Egypt, Europe, and North America via Egyptair, and would reflect exchanging businesses, cargos, hosting Bangladeshi students in Egyptian universities and tourists who would come to explore the multifaceted Egyptian tourism,” he added.

Hytham Gobashy said as Egypt is the cradle of modern civilisation, Egypt and Egyptair welcome tourists and passengers from Bangladesh to enjoy the Egyptian hospitality and various cultural heritages. Bangladesh students can study at Egyptian universities such as the world-renowned Al Azhar University.

“We are inviting the Bangladeshi people to visit Egypt and enjoy various cultural heritages and our hospitality,” he said.

He also discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Egypt through trade, tourism and investment.

The ambassador thanked the coordinated efforts from Bangladesh, both private and public sector, to push forward with a remarkable achievement that highlights the fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

Egyptair’s General Sales Agent in Bangladesh ALO Dhaka Aviation CEO Syed Ali Samy and its executive director Farhad Hossain also spoke at the programme.

Syed Ali Samy said, it is a great chance to go to Egypt in seven hours by direct flight and in the future, Egyptair will operate flights seven days a week.
