Mobile internet speed rises 15% in Bangladesh, 60% globally

Bangladesh witnessed a 15.38 per cent increase in mobile internet speed over the last year, compared to an average of 59.5 per cent across the globe.

According to the latest report published by Global Index of Ookla in July, the average speed of mobile internet in Bangladesh was 12.6 mbps, much lower than the global average speed of 55 mbps.

The report also indicated that in July 2020, the average download speed of mobile internet in the world was at 34.52 megabytes per second (Mbps).

In July this year, the global mobile internet download speed reached an average of 55.07 mbps.

In comparison, mobile internet download speed in Bangladesh was at 10.92 mbps in July last year, which rose to only 12.6 mbps this year.

Despite a low growth in mobile internet speed, Bangladesh witnessed an increase in broadband connection speed over the same period.

Broadband connectivity speed growth rate in Bangladesh was at 42.59 per cent in July this year, against a global average growth rate of 31.87 per cent.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s position in the Ookla Mobile Internet Speed Index has remained almost the same. Bangladesh was at 135 out of 139 countries included in the index.

According to their website, Global Index of Ookla paints a comparative picture of the average internet speed in many countries around the world.
