Bangladesh logs 51 more Covid-19 deaths, 1,901 cases

Bangladesh reported 51 new coronavirus-related deaths, and 1,901 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Wednesday.

The positivity rate went up slightly to 6.64 per cent from Tuesday’s 6.54 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,36,341 and the total fatalities at 27,058, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 28,615 samples at 806 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 93,32,460 samples.

Meanwhile, 3,873 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 14,90,541.

Among the fresh fatalities, 32 were males and 19 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 20 fatalities, followed by 11 in Chattogram, five each in Khulna and Sylhet, four in Rajshahi and three each in Barishal and Mymensingh. Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
