Single-day Covid deaths drop to 26, lowest in 4 months

Bangladesh on Monday reported 26 new coronavirus-related fatalities in a 24-hour period till 8:00am, the lowest in almost four months.

Earlier on May 27, Bangladesh reported 22 Covid deaths.

Health authorities also reported 1,555 fresh infections during the same period.

Against a recent downward trend, the positivity rate slightly went up to 5.67 per cent from Sunday’s 5.62 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,44,238 and the total fatalities at 27,251 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,431 samples at 810 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 94,65,087 samples.

Meanwhile, 1,565 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,03,106.

Among the fresh fatalities, 11 were males and 15 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with 15 fatalities, followed by five in Chattogram, two in Khulna, one each in Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh.

Rajshahi division reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 229,358,618 and the death toll to 4,706,957 till Monday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University update.
