Sun outage may disrupt Bangabandhu-1 satellite operation

Sun outage might disrupt the transmission of Bangabandhu-1 Satellite from 9:28am to 9:43am every day from September 29 to October 6.

Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited Managing Director (Additional Charge) Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

“As a natural cycle, the sun may obstruct satellite signals to earth. It can disrupt the data queue for that particular moment. This is a cautionary forecast for the organisations using B-1 satellite services. They are requested not to run broadcasting operations in that particular period to avoid interrupting feed,” Shafiqul added.

According to BSCL, this problem may occur for 5 minutes on September 20, 10 minutes on September 30, 14 minutes on October 1, 15 minutes on October 2, 15 minutes on October 2, 14 minutes on October 4, 12 minutes on October 5 and 10 minutes on October 6.

French company Thales Alenia Space who executed most of the technical operations for the B-1 satellite, says its coverage zone spans Bangladesh and neighbouring regions.

Positioned at 119.1° East, it will provide Ku-band services for Bangladesh and its territorial waters in the Gulf of Bengal, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Indonesia, while also offering C-band capacity over the entire region.
