Bangladesh reports 25 deaths, 1,212 cases

Bangladesh reported 25 new coronavirus-related deaths and 1,212 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Monday.

Continuing a downward trend, the positivity rate dropped further down to 4.36 from Sunday’s 4.41 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,52,563 and the total fatalities at 27,439 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,787 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 96,46,937 samples.

Meanwhile, 1,202 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,12,681.

Among the fresh fatalities, 13 were males and 12 were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with nine fatalities, followed by eight in Chattogram, three each in Khulna and Sylhet, and two in Rangpur.Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Earlier, daily infections dropped below the 1,000-mark on September 25 after more than four months with 818 fresh cases since May 17 when 698 deaths were reported.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 232,672,955 and the death toll to 4,763,652 till Monday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
