Ministers visit Matarbari

A high-level government delegation led by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan visited the under-construction deep-sea port and several other projects at Matarbari of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.

The delegation reached Matarbari Coal-fired Thermal Power Station from Dhaka by a helicopter around 11:00am.

A meeting between the delegation and local authorities was held in the hall room of the power plant around noon.

While briefing journalists after the meeting, Asaduzzman Khan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working to implement various development projects across the country. “Cox’s Bazar Airport is being developed. Matarbari is undergoing various development projects including the coal-fired thermal power plant, deep-sea port, economic zone, and LNG station. Implementation of these projects is progressing fast,” he said.

Other members on the delegation were state minister for shipping Kahild Mahamud Chowdhury, officials of the Prime Minister Office and the Ministry of Shipping, heads of law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

The home minister and other officials inspected security arrangements of all the projects, said officials.

Apart from the deep-sea port at Matarbari, several mega projects in the power and energy sector including offshore oil storage, Single Point Mooring for unloading crude oil, gas supply line from deep-sea floating station are under construction in Matarbari.
