Covid: Bangladesh logs 21 fresh fatalities, 847 cases

Bangladesh reported 21 new coronavirus-related deaths and 847 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Friday.

Although the positivity rate remained below 4 per cent for the second consecutive day, it went up slightly to 3.43 per cent from Thursday’s 3.24 per cent.

The overall caseload now stands at 1,556,758 and the total fatalities at 27,531, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 24,670 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 9,755,961 samples.

Meanwhile, 960 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 1,516,901.

Among the fresh fatalities, 12 were males and nine were females.

Dhaka division logged the highest deaths with nine fatalities, followed by five in Chattogram, four in Khulna, and one each in Rajshahi, Barishal, and Sylhet.

Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.
