The National Board of Revenue is going to shift to its new multistoried modern structure in the capital’s Agargaon within December as the construction project is nearing completion.

Officials say 80 per cent of the building work has already been finished while the rest is expected to be executed within the stipulated time.

“If everything goes well, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the building within the Mujib Year as per our plan and commitment,” said Md Moniruzzaman, second secretary (tax exemption) of the NBR, who is also the Deputy Project Director of the project.

During a recent visit to the site, it was seen that work is going on in full swing as the project officials are determined to carry out the task within the timeframe.

Talking to The Business Post, Project Director and Tax Commissioner Lutful Azeem said efforts are under way to this end to get the work done prior to December.

“The pace of work was a bit slow during the Covid-19 and lockdown. Besides, several workers caught dengue fever that also hampered the ongoing project. Now the construction project is running in full gear,” said the official.

“We are working towards the inauguration of the building within the Mujib Year.”

Lutful also posited that though the project deadline is June 2022, efforts are being made to wrap up overall work within February-March next year.

After 49 years of its establishment by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972, the central authority of tax administration is going to get the new building equipped with all modern amenities.

The cutting-edge building covers over 6,00,000 square feet, with each floor of it being 13 feet in height, and each of the two basements being 66,000 square feet. From the ground floor to fourth floor, each level is 44,000 square feet and 46,000 square feet each from fifth to the remaining floors.

Project officials said the 20-storey modern aesthetic office will be the National Revenue Building-1, but primarily it will be completed up to 12th floor while the rest in the future.

The eco-friendly building will incorporate central air conditioning system, with eight elevators, a 510-seat multipurpose hall, revenue archive, library, record room and central data processing centre and server space.
