New generation South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce (SBAC) Bank has suspended 11 officials, including two deputy managing directors (DMDs), on allegations of assisting the former chairman in loans irregularities.
A high official of the bank confirmed the issue to The Business Post on Thursday.
He said that the bank suspended those officials on October 04 as per the directive of the central bank.
The suspended two DMDs are – Md Kamal Uddin and Shafiuddin Ahmed.
The Business Post tried to reach the bank’s Managing Director Mosleh Uddin over phone for his comment but his phone was found switch off.
Other suspended officials are – SM Iqbal Mehadi, EVP & Head of Banking Operation, Head Office, Salauddin Ahmed, EVP & Head of Credit Administration Division, Head Office, ANM Moyeej Ahmed, VP & Head of International Division, Head Office, NM Abul Kalam Siddique, FAV & Head of Branch KDA, Khulna, Mohd Monjurul Alam, AVP & Head of Branch Chuknagar, Khulna SM Rabiul Alam, SEO & Head of Branch, Kharabat Baintola, Fakirhat, Bagerhat, Md Nazrul Islam, SEO & Head of Branch, Faltita, Fakirhat, Bager Hat, SK Abul Farah, in-charge foreign exchange div, Khulna Branch, Arup Kumar Shah, EO & Operation Manager Katakhali Branch, Fakirhat, Bagerhat.
Earlier on September 7, SM Amzad Hossain, founder chairman of the new generation Bank, resigned from his post citing physical illness. Then, Abdul Kadir Molla was elected as the chairman of the bank.
On August 19, the Anti-Corruption Commission decided to investigate money laundering allegations against Amzad.
Amzad faces several other allegations, including misusing power and laundering money by opening various shell companies at home and abroad.
In March this year, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit froze the accounts of Amzad, his wife, and daughter for 30 days on graft charges.
