Bangladesh on Friday added seven new coronavirus-related deaths and 645 fresh cases in a 24-hour period till 8:00am.

The country last logged single-digit Covid deaths seven months ago when six fatalities were reported on March 11.

During this period, the infection rate dropped down to 2.77 per cent from Thursday’s 2.97 per cent in the last 24 hours.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 15th consecutive day.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if the daily-case positivity rate remains at 5 per cent or below for 14 days it is considered to be safe for mass unlocking.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,61,463 and the total fatalities at 27,654, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 23,302 samples at 821 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 99,14,591 samples.

Meanwhile, 814 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,22,591.

Among the fresh fatalities, three were males and four were females.

Dhaka and Chattogram divisions logged the highest deaths with three fatalities each, followed by one in Rangpur.

Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 237,647,371 and the death toll to 4,851,676 till Friday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
