Bangladesh logs 415 new Covid cases in a day, lowest in five months

Bangladesh recorded 415 new Covid-19 cases, the lowest in almost five months, in a 24-hour period until 8:00am on Saturday.

Earlier on May 16, the country logged 363 new Covid cases.

However, the number of fatalities went up to 20 in the last 24 hours, up from only seven on Friday, which was the lowest in seven months.

The daily infection rate dropped to 2.45 per cent from Friday’s 2.77 per cent.

With this, the daily test positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for more than two weeks.

According to the World Health Organization, if the daily-case positivity rate remains at 5 per cent or below for 14 days, it is considered to be safe for mass unlocking. The country’s overall caseload now stands at 15,61,878 and the total fatalities at 27,674, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
