Evaly server, app down

The website and mobile app of e-commerce platform Evaly could not be accessed since Saturday afternoon.

On its verified Fecebook page, the company “sincerely apologized” for the inconvenience “caused by our server”. “Our continuous efforts to get the server up quickly again is underway. We are doing our utmost to protect the interests of customers and sellers,” it said.

In the long post, Evaly said it “want(s) to continue our business activities with the cooperation of all of you. And given this opportunity, we were, are, and will be committed to delivering all kinds of orders”.

There have been numerous allegations against the company for not delivering products on time.

The company said its employees were spending their days in fear and that its banking curriculum was temporarily closed following the imprisonment of its CEO Mohammad Rassel and his wife, Shamima Nasrin, the chairman.

“In such a situation, there is uncertainty about the cost of running our office, including our servers, and the responsibilities of our employees,” the post read.

Evaly claimed that it could sort out the complications “within four months” if given the opportunity.

Rassel and Shamima, arrested on Sep 16, are currently in jail. Evaly shut down its Dhanmondi office after their arrest.

Evaly’s liabilities to customers and products suppliers increased by Tk 379 crore to Tk 517 crore in just a year. Its financial statement submitted to the commerce ministry showed its total liabilities jumped by Tk 540 crore in just two years.

In FY 2020-21, the liabilities soared to Tk 543 crore, up from Tk 141 crore in the previous FY. In FY18-19, the amount was only Tk 3 crore.
