Plan to save Sundarbans underway

A Strategic Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) has been formulated to ensure conservation of the Sundarbans and the southwestern region in conjunction with the country’s development process.

The Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin said this at a meeting on Thursday.

“We will be able to ensure conservation of the Sundarbans by implementing development activities in the southwestern part of the country as per SEMP,” according to the minister.

“The implementation of development plan in the southwestern region would be further accelerated after the launch of the dream Padma Bridge.”

Shahab Uddin was addressing the event as the chief guest.

The meeting was held with the national-level stakeholders that focused on the draft Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Report and SEMP at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre yesterday.
