Bangladesh added 5 new coronavirus-related deaths and 289 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Monday.

The positivity rate drops to 1.39 per cent from Sunday’s 1.49 per cent.

With this, the daily infection rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the last five weeks.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak of 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,67,981 and the total fatalities at 27,828 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 20,833 samples at 833 laboratories across the country.

Bangladesh has so far tested 1,02,42,923 samples.

Meanwhile, 413 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,31,740.

Among the fresh fatalities, two were males and three were females.

Dhaka, Chattogram divisions logged the highest deaths with two fatalities each; Khulna division logged one.

Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mynmansing, Barishal divisions reported no new deaths.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 243,751,108 and the death toll to 4,950,278 till Saturday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
