REHAB fair begins in port city tomorrow

A four-day REHAB Chattogram Fair 2021 will kick off on Thursday (tomorrow) at Hotel Radisson Blu in the port city.

‘Dreamy housing in red green Bangladesh’ is the slogan of this fair.

A total of 71 organisations including, housing, real estate, building materials and financial organisations are participating in the fair, said a press statement. The press conference was held on Tuesday afternoon at Chattogram club where REHAB vice president Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury presented a written speech.

In his address, Mr Qayyum said due to some flaws in the policy, the housing sector is going through a crisis. The stagnation in the sector has somewhat been removed since the introduction of home loans at 5 per cent interest for government employees.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the fair while Chattogram City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Chattogram Development Authority Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dobhas will be present as special guests.  

The leaders of Real Estate Housing Association of Bangladesh demands that the registration cost of real estate sector be reduced. A few days ago the registration cost was reduced by 2 per cent, but REHAB is working on how to reduce such cost further.

At present the total registration cost is about 12-13 per cent. The housing sector accounts for 15 per cent of the country’s overall economy, providing employment for about two million people.
