The first-ever ‘Made in Bangladesh Week’ will be organised in November next year to showcase the apparel sector’s latest development in innovation, compliance, and sustainability to global buyers and brands.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will jointly organise the event with Bangladesh Apparel Exchange. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the event, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan told the media on Saturday.
The expo, a combination of 15 physical events, will showcase Bangladesh as a new world for fashion — how it evolved, improved, and what the avenues are to work together to shape the industry.
Chief executive officers and top officials of global brands, academia, fashion journalists, politicians and policymakers from the European Union, development partners and leading industry people across the globe will be invited to join the event.
“In the last couple of years, Bangladesh made a lot of progress in the apparel sector in workplace safety, product development and design, innovation and compliance. These issues will be highlighted at the event to brand Bangladesh,” said Hassan.
He said they are emphasising sustainability as they recover from the pandemic’s impact. This will be highlighted in the Made in Bangladesh week, he said.
“This one will be an important event for the apparel sector and the country. We will also highlight the industry’s capacity, capability and road map towards prosperity,” said Hassan.
Meanwhile, there will be fashion shows, expositions on the latest products and designs to inform the global buyers about Bangladesh’s present state of the clothing industry.
“To attract buyers and brands, we have to inform them about the latest trend and designs developed by our exporters and designers. We will arrange fashion shows,” Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, told The Business Post.
On the other hand, there will be Bangladesh Denim Expo, Apparel Expo, where all the latest products will be exhibited, said Mostafiz.
“We also have many stories to tell like sustainability, great achievement in eco-friendly manufacturing with the highest number green factories and other successes. This will be broadly narrated to our partners and global communities,” he added.
