Cox’s Bazar to get new stadium named after Sheikh Kamal

The government will construct an international-standard cricket and football stadium in Cox’ Bazar after the name of Sheikh Kamal.

The stadium will be constructed in such a way that besides cricket-football, the beauty of the world’s longest sea beach can also be enjoyed while sitting in the gallery. About 50,000 spectators will be able to watch the game together.

The stadium will be constructed completely different from other existing stadiums. The construction style of the stadium will also be aesthetic. All other stadiums are round shaped but one side of the planned stadium will be opened.

In this regard, the National Sports Council under the Ministry of Youth and Sports is conducting a feasibility study to construct a stadium along with a sports complex.

“As the feasibility study for the construction of a stadium complex in Cox’s Bazar has almost completed, the survey report is scheduled to be published on December 23, this year,” said director of National Sports Council Muhammad Sarwar Jahan.

As per the guidelines of the feasibility study, the ministry will take on the main project of constructing an international standard stadium at Laboni Point on the beach, he also said.

The feasibility study of Tk 4.38 crore project started in January 2020. The project was expected to complete by June 2021. Later on, the project tenure was extended by another six months to December 2021 without escalation of the cost, a senior official of the Planning Commission told The Business Post.

Accommodation in Cox’s Bazar is very good. There are a number of hotels, motels and guest houses of various quality, including a number of five-star hotels. For all these reasons, the authority has decided to construct a football-cricket stadium with international standards.

The vacant space of the stadium, a spectacular academic building, star-studded hotel, gymnasium and swimming zone will also be constructed.
