Speakers at the inaugural function of PHP MotorFest-2021 in Chattogram on Sunday lauded the group’s investment in the automobile industry, saying that it will brighten the country’s image and help make the nation self-reliant.

Organised by PHP Automobiles Ltd, the motor fest at PHP House in the Agrabad commercial area showcases cars assembled by PHP Automobiles of the Malaysian brand Proton. Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel was the chief guest of the programme, chaired by the founding chairman of PHP Group of Industries and Ekushey Padak-2020 winner Sufi Mohamed Mizanur Rahman.

“PHP has raised our head as a nation with the courage it has shown by investing in the automobile industry. The whole country is proud,” Nowfel said.

He said that Bangladeshis used reconditioned cars which don’t match our current progress. PHP family’s initiatives are an attempt to change the scenario.

Appreciating PHP’s initiative, Nowfel said that Proton has a good reputation. He said PHP’s initiative to implement Prime Minister Sheik Hasina’s wish to refrain from using reconditioned cars would boost our self-esteem. Urging everyone to use PHP Proton cars manufactured in the country, Nowfel said that the government had given instructions not to use reconditioned vehicles.

PHP Automobiles Limited Managing Director Mohammad Aktar Parvez delivered the opening speech after the inauguration of the six-day festival. “We want everyone to have brand new cars at reasonable prices,” he said, noting that PHP’s cars have a five-year warranty.

Mahbubul Alam, president of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the special guest at the event, said the PHP family had been playing a unique role in developing the industrial sector. “PHP’s initiative in the automobile sector will enhance the country’s prestige and help make the nation self-reliant,” he said.

With the sincere support of Malaysian leader Mahathir Mohamad, PHP Automobiles has been assembling Proton cars at its factory in Chattogram since 2017. It is capable of producing about 4,000 units per year.

The PHP MotorFest is showcasing the Proton Saga and Proton Persona, sports utility vehicles – Proton SUV X-70 and microbus Proton X30. Anyone can buy cars directly from this fest and pay in instalments.

One of the attractions of the inaugural function was the speech of veteran industrialist Sufi Mizunur who narrated the story of owning a leading industrial group starting from the career of bank staff.

Explaining reasons for the automobile initiative, he said Bangladesh was an example of economic and social development. Self-reliance in food production and the construction of the Padma Bridge have given us the identity of a strong nation. So why would we ride reconditioned cars from another country?

Mentioning the slogan of PHP automobiles (which roughly translated, reads – our cars on our roads, every house will have a car), the industrialist said, “We are working hard for this, it’ll will not go in vain.”

Sufi Mizanur said there was no alternative to hard work for progress and development and everyone has to work harder.

Praising Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sufi Mizanur said that the people woke up to the 18-minute magical speech of the Father of the Nation and became independent in just nine months. On the other hand, Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina has earned unprecedented respect in the global community with her hard work.

On the fest’s opening day, people, especially businessmen, employees, professionals, bankers and insurance officers, visited the fest. The six-day fest will continue till next Friday. Mohammad Mohsin, Senior Vice Chairman, Anjuman Trust and Mohammad Akhtar, Managing Director, PHP Automobiles also spoke at the inaugural function.
