NBL MD Bari quits on health issues

Shah Syed Abdul Bari, managing director and chief executive officer of National Bank, stepped down on Thursday before the expiry of his tenure.

He was made the managing director and chief executive officer of the bank in April this year. His tenure was set to expire on July 27, 2022.

A high official of the bank said Bari had submitted his resignation to the board of directors citing health issues.

He said the bank’s Deputy Managing Director Syed Rais Uddin had been appointed as the acting managing director.

Bari could not be reached for comments over the phone. He served as the bank’s deputy managing director before becoming the managing director.

After joining the bank as the senior executive vice president in 2015, he was promoted to deputy managing director the following year.

National Bank recently drew flak due to irregularities and internal conflicts.

The Bangladesh Bank on April 5 barred the bank from disbursing loans without the former’s prior approval.
