30,000 taxpayers file e-Return till Friday

Thirty thousand taxpayers have filed their returns through the National Board of Revenue’s e-Return platform till Friday. Besides, more than 67,000 citizens have registered on this platform since the service came online on October 10.

The NBR has been insisting eligible citizens to file income tax returns through the e-Return service since the system’s inception, stating that the taxpayers will be able to avoid any hassle of visiting a tax office. Any taxpayer can register and file a return by visiting the NBR website.

Speaking to The Business Post, NBR Member (Tax Policy) Md Alamgir Hossain said people submitting their returns through the e-Return system and registering for this service is a positive development.

“The number of registrations and filing of returns through this system is comparatively low, because this is a new system. We are optimistic that more people will file returns and register with this service in the coming days.”

For those who have e-TINs, submitting returns is mandatory. But those who pay high amounts of taxes or income tax in advance will not be able to use the e-Return system for now.

The rest of the taxpayers can file their returns by submitting their TIN numbers and passwords in the system. It will then ask for information about taxable income, whether they own houses or cars, or assets worth more than Tk 40 lakh.

If conditions are met, the system will generate the return automatically. Taxpayers will just have to check their information and submit their returns afterwards.

People with tax amounts less than Tk 10,000 – Tk 20,000 will be able to pay their taxes through bKash. NBR sources said the number of such taxpayers is around 10 lakh to 15 lakh in the country.
