BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Khaleda Zia’s health condition is not stable, and the people will not spare the government if anything serious happens to her.

Fakhrul made the remark on Tuesday at a rally in front of its Nayapaltan central office, held as part of the BNP’s countrywide movement demanding an opportunity to take Khaleda abroad for advanced treatment. At the rally, quoting Khaleda’s physician Zahid, Fakhrul said her condition is now better compared to last [Monday] night as the doctors managed to tackle the danger.

He continued, “Zahid informed me about this development this [Tuesday] morning, but doctors think the signs are not good at all. They have clearly stated that there is currently no treatment available here [Bangladesh] for the decease Khaleda is suffering from.

“The doctors told us that the BNP chief must be taken abroad without further delay to ensure proper treatment.”

Stating that Khaleda Zia has been fighting for her life, the BNP leader mentioned that a minister of the government previously claimed that the doctors’ briefing about Khaleda’s health was created by the BNP.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies joined Tuesday’s rally. Similar rallies were held in eight other divisional cities to mount pressure on the government for allowing Khaleda go abroad for advanced treatment.

Former prime minister Khaleda Zia, 76, has been receiving treatment at the Evercare Hospital for various health complications since November 13.

Her medical board members on Sunday said she needs to go abroad immediately for better treatment as she has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.
