US Senate okays Peter Haas as new envoy to Dhaka

The US Senate has confirmed the nomination of Peter D Haas for his appointment as the next ambassador to Bangladesh.

His nomination was confirmed by the Senate by voice vote on Saturday.

Haas will succeed Earl R Miller, incumbent US ambassador to Bangladesh.

Miller was sworn in as US ambassador to Bangladesh on November 13, 2018. Haas, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, is the principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Economic Affairs, according to the Department of State.

He previously served as deputy assistant secretary for trade policy and negotiations. Haas also served as chargé d’affaires and deputy permanent representative at the US Mission to the OECD.
