Kiam Metal Industries – one of the largest kitchenware manufacturers in Bangladesh – planned to only showcase their extensive range of cookware and appliances at the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2022, but overwhelming consumer interest made the company change their minds.
Although the fair began from January 1 at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, the Kiam pavilion only began making sales from Saturday afternoon.
“By the evening, we already made Tk 2 lakh in sales as customers flooded our stall, putting their faith in the quality of our products,” Kiam’s Territory Sales Manager Md Hasemi Rafsan told The Business Post.
Meanwhile, a sales executive of the stall Md Shagidul Islam said, “Company authorities initially planned to just exhibit our products at the fair, so we had not sold anything from the pavilion till Friday. But due to consumer interest, this decision has changed.
“We are now stocking our stall with cookware and appliances to meet consumer demand.”
On Saturday, customers were seen browsing the pavilion in search of affordable cookware that fits their specific needs. Kiam’s cookware sets – which have always been popular – are the centre of attention at the fair too.
Md Habib, a teacher who was visiting the trade fair with his doctor wife, bought a 7-set cookware from Kiam pavilion. Sharing his experience, Habib said, “We spend hectic lives because of our professions. So, we rely on Kiam appliances and cookware to cut some hassle.”
Another visitor, Md Ruhul Amin, who recently got married, said, “I am visiting the fair with my wife to spend some quality time together. I bought a Kiam rice cooker for her because she likes Kiam’s products.
The price of cookware at the pavilion varies depending on capacity and the number of items in a set. A three-item set is selling for Tk 2,100, five-item set for Tk 2,900 and seven-item set for Tk 33,000.
Kiam imports raw materials from different countries, and manufactures their products at a factory in Kushtia.
