Biman to buy 2 aircraft for vegetable exports

Biman Bangladesh Airlines will buy two aircraft to start special cargo flights for exporting vegetables, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali has said.

Addressing a press briefing at the Biman office in the capital on Monday, he said Bangladesh is the world’s third largest vegetable exporter.

“We earned $1 million by exporting vegetables last year. The demand for our vegetables has risen in multiple countries,” he said.

Biman leased two Boeing aircraft from Ireland in 2009 and now wants to buy the old aeroplanes.

“Our expert team thinks if we send the planes back, we will need $6.8 million to repair those first. But we can buy those for $19 million. As a result, Biman will not face losses,” Mahbub said.
