Razzaque urges Japan to produce agri machinery in Bangladesh

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque has urged Japanese agricultural equipment manufacturing company ‘Yanmar’ to establish a factory in Bangladesh to produce machinery locally.

“Our government has increased subsidies on agricultural tools, which has created huge interest among farmers in using agricultural equipment in farming. Already, a market has grown here as the company’s products have good demand locally.” the minister said.

The minister came up with the urge to Japan ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki while visiting an agriculture products exhibition by Yanmar on Deepto Television premises in Dhaka on Friday.

In reply, Ito Naoki assured that his country will take a joint initiative with Bangladesh to produce agriculture tools locally.

Citing that the present government has identified agriculture as a priority sector, the minister said the country has managed to be self-reliant in food production but challenges remain in ensuring nutritious food and the government has been working on it.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim addressed the function as a special guest while Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Usman Turan, Deepto TV Managing Director Kazi Jahedul Hasan, among others, also spoke.

BADC Chairman AFM Hayatullah, DAE Director General Benazir Alam, DG of Agricultural Research Institute Debashish Roy, Managing Director of ACI Agro Fam Ansari, among others, were present.
