Bangladesh is considering furthering economic ties with South Korea in an effort to boost the already growing bilateral cooperation between the two South Asian countries, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said.
The minister made the observation at a view-exchange meeting with the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-Keun at the secretariat building on Sunday.
Tipu Munshi said: “Korea is a close ally and has long been a key commercial partner of Bangladesh. Several Korean companies already operate in Bangladesh, including investors in the garment, electronics, and other sectors. There is the potential to expand this investment and trade. Bangladesh already exports RMG products to Korea and has the potential to expand its exports.”
Meanwhile, Lee Jang-Keun said: “Bangladesh has witnessed unprecedented development over the years, which now becoming visible. The bilateral trade between the two countries is at its peak now.”
“A number of Korean companies are already working in various sectors of Bangladesh, including readymade garments and electronic products. Korea considers Bangladesh important for increasing trade and investment,” he added.
As Korea increases trade worldwide, it is considering manufacturing cars in Bangladesh, he also added.
