The general point-to-point inflation increased by 0.05 percentage point to 6.22 per cent in March compared to the previous month.
The inflation rate is the highest in the last 18 months, according to a report of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) published on Tuesday. The BBS released its March issue of the regular disclosure titled “Consumer Price Index (CPI), Inflation Rate and Wage Rate Index (WRI) in Bangladesh” indicating a sharp price hike of food items.
The food inflation stood at 6.34 per cent in March, which was 6.22 per cent in February.
The non-food inflation was 6.10 per cent in February, which was 6.26 per cent in January. Urban inflation went up by 10 basis points to 5.69 per cent, led by a 19-basis point rise in food inflation, which stood at 5.49 per cent, BBS data showed.
