Keep essentials market stable ahead of Eid: FBCCI tells traders

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged all businessmen of the country to keep the essential market stable ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and avoid creating any artificial crisis by stockpiling goods.

The apex trade body’s Senior Vice-President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu made the call at a meeting with Mohammadpur Town Hall Dhaka North City Corporation Kitchen Market Traders Association on Saturday afternoon.

Azad, also the convener of FBCCI’s market monitoring committee, urged traders to sell products at government fixed prices to keep the market stable ahead of the Eid and directed the traders association to ensure that happens.

“Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, there is no crisis of products now. So, traders should not create any crisis in the market to capitalize on the global economic crisis. If we find learn about anyone responsible for creating artificial crisis by hoarding goods, FBCCI will recommend their names to government agencies for punitive measures,” he warned.

Azad also urged the mill owners to send a list of the dealers of sugar, salt and flour to FBCCI.

During the meeting, Town Hall kitchen market traders body President Md Lutfar Rahman Babul said that previously they had shut down shops that were stockpiling and selling products at higher prices. “We will do the same in future as well.”

Among others, FBCCI Directors Abu Motaleb, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal and Harun Or Rashid, Town Hall market traders association General Secretary Md Muslim Uddin Shikder were also present at the meeting.
