Abul Kalam Azad made BB executive director

GM Abul Kalam Azad, the director of the Department of Communications and Publications and assistant spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank (BB), has been promoted to the executive director (ED) — one of the highest posts of the central bank.

The Human Resource Department of BB issued an office order in this regard on Wednesday.

Azad joined the central bank in 1992 as an assistant director. He completed his honours, master’s and diploma in education from Dhaka University.

He has performed professional duties with efficiency and dedication in the central bank’s Research Department, Monetary Policy Department, Governor’s Secretariat and the Department of Communications and Publications.

Azad has visited the United States, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India and attended many training sessions.

Azad is the son of a well-known Gazi family of the Churamankathi union in Jashore Sadar upazila. He is a volunteer executive adviser to the Bhatai-Nurjahan Orphan Friend (VNOF), a Jashore-based regional organization.

His wife Rokeya Khatun also currently works as a director of the central bank. The couple has three daughters.
