SSC exams likely in August

The government is planning to hold the postponed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations in August, in consideration of the post-flood situation in the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee held on Sunday, said the committee’s Chairman and Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar.

“Considering the post-flood situation, we have decided from the meeting to hold SSC exams in August,” he remarked.

However, the new routine for SSC and equivalent examinations will be published after Eid, he said, adding that the HSC and its equivalent exams will also be delayed.

This year’s SSC and equivalent examinations were scheduled to start on June 19 under 11 education boards.

However, on June 17, the government decision came as the flood situation continued to deteriorate in north and north-eastern districts of Bangladesh at that time, relatively more gravely in Sunamganj and Sylhet, with army personnel deployed to deal with the situation.

The majority of the educational institutions in these districts were inundated, forcing a suspension of all classroom activities in the institutions.

Usually, SSC exams begin in the first week of February, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the exams by at least 4-5 months.

A total of 20,21,006 students filled in forms to take part in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations under the 11 education boards across the country.
