Digital Haat, an online marketplace to sell sacrificial animals, sold 59,481 animals worth Tk 739 crore as of Saturday.

While 17,502 sacrificial animals were sold from merchants/khamari worth Tk 142 crore, in total online transactions tracked Tk 1,008 crore.

Digital Haat data shows a total of 66,06,842 visitors visit the website from July 3 to July 10 (Eid day).

The government launched the digital platform last year aim to help buyers and cattle traders avoid mass gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The platform was launched in association with the ICT division, Access to Information Programme (ai2), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and e-Commerce Association Bangladesh (e-CAB).

Meanwhile, a total of 99,50,763 cattle have been sacrificed across the country in the holy Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, this year.

As many as 8.57 lakh more cattle have been sacrificed compared to the previous year, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said in a press statement on Monday.

Last year, 90.93 cattle were slaughtered on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, it said.

Highest 24.91 lakh cattle have been sacrificed in Dhaka division marking the festival while 21.28 lakh cattle have been slaughtered in Chattogram division.
