Production at Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Ltd (CUFL) has stopped due to the shortage of gas, the main raw material of urea fertiliser.

At around 10:00pm on Tuesday night, the production of the factory came to a halt as the pressure of gas in the supply line dwindled.

Earlier on Sunday, production in the factory resumed after closure due to a technical failure. However, production had to be stopped due to a shortage of gas again on Tuesday.

CUFL General Manager Moinul Haque said that due to the non-availability of gas, the factory’s fertiliser production has been stopped. When the gas pressure in the supply line of CUFL fell on Tuesday night, the decision to stop production was taken.

According to the CUFL authorities, the factory can produce 1,700 tonnes of fertiliser per day. The latest daily production of the factory was 1000 to 1200 tonnes.
