Water levels in 63 rivers rise, 43 fall

Water levels at 63 river stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked rise while 43 stations recorded fall.

Among the 109 monitored river stations, three have been registered steady and water level at all river stations is flowing below the danger level, a bulletin issued by the FFWC said on Sunday.

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna and the Ganges-Padma rivers are in rising trend, which may continue in next 48 hours, the bulletin said, adding except the Manu and Khowai, all the major rivers in the north-eastern region of the country are in steady state, which may continue in next 24 hours.

According to the forecast of meteorological agencies, there is chance of heavy rainfall at some places of the northern & north-eastern region of the country along with adjoining upstream areas of India in next 24 hours.

As a result, the Teesta, Dharla, Dhudhkumar rivers in the northern region and the Manu and Khowai rivers in the north-eastern region of the country may rise rapidly at times at some points in next 24 hours, the flood forecasting centre added.

Significant rainfall was recorded at some stations in different districts of Bangladesh during the last 24 hours ending at 9 am today. A total of 70 mm rainfalls were recorded at Serajganj, 65mm at Bogura, 55mm at Rangpur, 52mm at Dalia (Nilphamari), 70mm at Dewanganj, 63mm at Noakhali, 52mm at Patuakhali and 51mm at Mohadebpur.
