10 killed in India hospital fire

At least 10 people were killed in a massive fire at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.

The fire occurred at New Life Multi-speciality Hospital near Damoh Naka area of Jabalpur in the afternoon, NDTV reports. “It was a massive fire, and our teams rescued all the people trapped inside the hospital,” Akhilesh Gaur, Jabalpur’s police chief superintendent said.

He also said that the fire has been put out. According to police, the fire appears to have been caused due to a short circuit. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a compensation of Rs5 lakhs each for the families of those killed in the fire.

CM condoles loss of lives

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.

Taking to Twitter, Chouhan said, “In this hour of grief, the bereaved families should not consider themselves alone. The entire Madhya Pradesh and I are with them. The state government will provide assistance of Rs five lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the seriously injured.

“The government will also bear the cost of complete treatment of the injured,” he said. Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath also extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the fire.
