Eight fast track projects clock 75% progress till July

Works on eight fast-track projects in the country are going on full swing as the overall progress is 75.93 per cent by July this year.

According to the progress report of July prepared by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Planning Commission, the financial progress is 67.99 per cent.

The projects are – Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Payra Port, Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar rail link, Rampal super thermal power project, Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT-6), Padma Rail Link, Matarbari 2x600 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power and Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.

About the matter, IMED Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman said that “Fast track projects are being inspected every four months and then progress reports of them are prepared. So, it will be easier to track the current status of projects and troubleshoot any complications.”

“We are closely monitoring all the fast-track projects. We are sending recommendations to the respective implementing agencies after monitoring the project site,” he also said.

“We are sending the progress report to the Fast Track Task Force through the Economic Relations Division (ERD),” he added.

Padma Multipurpose Bridge

On June 25, the Padma Multipurpose Bridge was opened for transportation for all. But the work of the project is not completed 100 per cent. The physical progress of the project is 95.10 per cent while the financial progress of the project is 92.70 per cent in July. The ancillary works of the project will be completed in June 2023.

The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 30,193.39 crore while the construction works started in November 2014. Till July, Tk 27,989.84 crore has been spent on the project.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

The works of the biggest ever Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is going on full swing. The financial progress of the project is 49.27 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 51.50 per cent.

Metro Rail Service (MRT-6)

The metro rail from Uttara to Agargaon has been completed. The route is likely to be opened for all this December. IMED report said the financial progress of the project is 89.57 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 92 per cent.

However, the government escalates the project cost to Tk 33,471 crore for expanding Motijheel to Kamalapur. The tenure of the project has also been extended till December 2025.

Padma Bridge Rail Link Project

The progress of the Padma Rail Link project is also going fast. The financial progress of the project is 61.76 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 61 per cent.

Payra Sea Port

The financial progress of the Payra Sea project port is 81.75 per cent while the physical progress of the project is 87 per cent.

Dhaka-Cox’s Bazar via Dohazari Rail Line Project

The physical progress of the project is 73 per cent while the financial progress of the project is 37.41 per cent.

Rampal Power Plant 

The power plant also known as Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, has two units, each with 660MW production capacity. The project is not included in the annual development programme (ADP).

The physical progress of the project is 85.25 per cent while its financial progress is 87 per cent. The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 16,000 crore.

Matarbari Power Plant

‘The physical progress of the Matarbari Power Plant project is 85.25 per cent while its financial progress is 82.05 per cent till July.
