Edu ministry for upgrading project status

The Ministry of Education has sought approval from the finance ministry to consider a development project that aims to establish multimedia classrooms at 365 madrasas in the country as a priority spending of the government.

While the project, styled, ‘Multimedia Classrooms in 653 Madrasas’ was not placed in the priority list under the category ‘A’. Only 75 per cent of its allocation can be spent in the current fiscal year for its downgraded status belonging to the group ‘B’.

Therefore, the Technical and Madrasa Education Division of the Education Ministry already sent a letter to the finance division on August 17 to uplift the status of the project.

The government in June categorized development projects in three categories, with ‘C’ having the less priority status to lessen pressure on foreign reserve, and domestic resource.

The project under implementation from July 2017 to June 2023, at a cost of Tk 30.65 crore fully is funded by fully by the local fund.

According to the finance division sources, the project is related to education even though it belongs to the IT sector. Moreover, there is an opportunity to spend 75 per cent of allocated money for ‘B’ category projects outside the IT sector. So, there is scope for giving concessions for this particular project on special consideration.

As per a circular of the finance division, there is an obligation not to spend more than 50 per cent of the projects belonging to IT sector.
