Local, int’l manufacturers take part in Ctg steel conference

The 3rd Steel and Raw Material Conference, Emerging Bangladesh, started in Chattogram on Tuesday amid much fanfare and festivity with the participation of pioneers of the steel sector from home and abroad.

Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, founder and chairman of PHP Family, a leading business conglomerate in the country, inaugurated the two-day long international conference at Hotel Radisson Blue in the port city.

Manufacturers and suppliers of steel and iron factory machinery and suppliers of raw materials from across the world are attending the conference.

This mega event is being organised by the international company SteelMint and Ahmed Enterprises in a joint venture with Bangladesh’s steel sector pioneer PHP Family.

Addressing the inaugural session of the conference, Sufi Mizanur Rahman said it is a big task to bring all stakeholders in the steel sector under one roof and it has been possible due to the sincere efforts of the different stakeholders of the sector.

Mentioning that the conference will bring many benefits to the entrepreneurs of the sector, he said, “The work that used to take weeks or months will be possible to be completed in just one day.

Quoting various sages including Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), Sufi Mizanur Rahman said that humanity is a great form of worship that is recognized in all religions. The highest level of humanity can be achieved through proper education and knowledge.

Chairman and CEO of BSRM Group Alihussain Akberali delivered the welcome speech at the inaugural session of the conference.

He said that their journey in this industry started with re-rolling mills in 1942. Currently, the BSRM, one of the country’s leading steel manufacturing companies, is moving forward under the leadership of the third generation.

Mentioning that the country’s steel sector will go a long way through this conference, Alihussain Akberali said BSRM Group is always ready to join any effort which is new and innovative.

In this two-day event, a total of eight knowledge-sharing sessions will be held.

In the exhibition organised at the conference venue, around ‍40 stalls of renowned companies from home and abroad are showcasing their products and services.

International organisations, manufacturers of steel mill machinery, consulting firms, steel materials suppliers, consultants, specialist engineers, steel mill owners, and delegates from Germany, Australia, Turkey, India, Austria Russia, Taiwan, China, Japan, and America are attending the conference.

Ship Breaking Association President Abu Taher, PHP Family Directors Ali Hossain and Amir Hossain, Managing Director of BSRM Aameir Alihussain and Chief Executive Officer of KY Steel Jaber Hossain along with top local entrepreneurs, engineers, and officials of the country’s steel sector were present at the inaugural session of the conference.

On behalf of the organiser SteelMint, PHP Framily Chairman Sufi Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, and BSRM Chairman Alihussain Akberali were given special awards for their overall contribution, including the steel sector, to society.
