100% Aman production target achieved

Bangladesh achieved 100 per cent of the rice cultivation target in the ongoing Aman season, leaving behind the fear of drought and lack of rain, said a press release of the Agriculture Ministry.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, this season’s target was cultivating paddy on 59 lakh hectares of land and the production target has been set at 1.63 crore tonnes of rice, the release said. In 2021-22, 57.20 lakh hectares of land was cultivated and 1.50 crore tonne of rice was produced, it added.

In 2020-21, Aman was cultivated on 56.25 lakh hectares of land, producing 1.45 crore tonnes of rice.

Recently in a program in Mymensingh, Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzaque said the uncertainty in Aman production is over. If there is no natural calamity, Aman production may be higher than in the past year, the release said.

Meanwhile, due to drought and low rainfall, about 15 lakh hectares of Aman land have to be irrigated.
